Connecting with God from the Heart

There are not many worship songs that I can “stomach” lately, but this is not one of them!  “Here’s my Heart” by Lauren Daigle is a gem.  A beautiful song, a passionate song and a song with good theology.

It was in passing through the kitchen yesterday morning that I heard this song playing on my wife’s ipad.  It “caught” me enough, even in my shallow listening at that moment, that I wrote the name of the song down and said I have to listen to that later.  When I listened to the song later in the day all I could say was, “Yes!”

I felt the passion, the connection, the meditative spirit.  It’s a song style that I like – simple melody, passionate heart and solid theology.  It’s a song about identity.  Our identity and God’s identity.  It’s a song that touched my heart and spirit and helped me connect with God’s heart.  The words and themes:

God simply wants our heart.
God desires to speak what is true to us and it is never condemnation.
We are found – we are not lost to God. None of us.
We are God’s. We belong to God. Nothing can take that away.
We are loved. We are loved beyond belief and understanding.
We are not only made pure. We pure. If I could change one line, I’d change this one to “I am pure.” In Christ we are pure, holy and blameless.
I have life. Yes! Jesus did not come to bring less death, but more life!
I can breathe. Yes! A theology that helps us breathe, to soothe and calm in the only true reality there is – God’s love as we recover from our spiritual amnesia and remember who we are and who God is.
I am free. Yes! The truth sets free from our misery when we remember it. And for freedom Christ has set us free.

How’s that for our identity!?

And how about God?! And a beautiful reminder that God is strong, sure, life, enduring, good, true and light. GOD IS LIGHT AND LIFE BREAKING THROUGH! Yes! Yes! Yes! That gives me an idea for an Easter message. An Easter message that is for everyday and every moment – wherever we find life, love, light and laughter coming through in life, it is God coming through!

Remembering the truth of this song we can know that:
God’s got us.
God has our back.
Everything’s going to be OK, more than OK.
No matter what’s happening in our lives we are in God, God is in us…
And all shall be well and all shall be well and all shall be well.

The simplicity and passion of the chorus stays with me and I’ve been using it for my meditation and contemplation. As I walked the dog last night I felt joy as a sang this song to myself, remembering my connection with God. And there’s a phrase that has become more meaningful to me these days that I’ve been using to ask God to lead me. And this phrase, with the same amount of syllables fits so nicely in the chorus of this song as I interchange it with the original lyrics.

“Here I am Lord.”
“Here I am Lord.”
“Here I am Lord.”
“I am listening.”

It’s about connecting from our hearts to the heart of God, opening, surrendering and listening to and for the truth that sets us free from all that binds.

LYRICS:

Here’s my heart, Lord [x3]
Speak what is true

I am found, I am Yours
I am loved, I’m made pure
I have life, I can breathe
I am healed, I am free

Here’s my heart, Lord [x3]
Speak what is true

Cause I am found, I am Yours
I am loved, I’m made pure
I have life, I can breathe
I am healed, I am free

You are strong, You are sure
You are life, You endure
You are good, always true
You are light breaking through

Oh, here’s my heart, Lord
Here’s my heart, Lord [x2]
Speak what is true

Here’s my life, Lord [x3]
Speak what is true [x3]

I am found, I am Yours
I am loved, I’m made pure
I have life, I can breathe
I am healed, I am free
Cause You You are strong, You are sure
You are life, You endure
You are good, always true
You are light breaking through
