Kind and Generous.

I love this song by Natalie Merchant.  It’s simple and to the point.  And it’s one of the best “worship” songs of gratitude I’ve heard.  Yes, I’m sure it was written thinking about our human relationships.  And in fact I have given and “gifted” this song to others who have walked with me on my journey and have helped me through their acceptance, love and wisdom.  It speaks of our gratitude for others, but it’s deeper.  It’s a beautiful song for and to God that helps me feel and express my gratitude.  How kind and generous God is.  How lavishly God loves me and is loving me right now.  How thankful I am for God’s acceptance, grace, kindness and love.  It’s the last part of the song that I especially “feel” in my soul with the simple repeated phrase of “thank you.”  For our acceptance, your love, your tenderness, your grace, your kindness, your generosity and all the gifts of life itself Oh God – thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you…

LYRICS:

You’ve been so kind and generous
I don’t know how you keep on giving
For your kindness I’m in debt to you
For your selflessness, my admiration
And for everything you’ve done

You know I’m bound…
I’m bound to thank you for it

You’ve been so kind and generous
I don’t know how you keep on giving
For your kindness I’m in debt to you
And I never could have come this far without you
So for everything you’ve done

You know I’m bound…
I’m bound to thank you for it

I want to thank you
For so many gifts
You gave with love and tenderness
I want to thank you

I want to thank you
For your generosity
The love and the honesty
That you gave me

I want to thank you
Show my gratitude
My love and my respect for you
I want to thank you

I want to…

Thank you
Thank you
Thank you
Thank you
Thank you
Thank you
